About Me

Welcome to Me Do It Meself! My name is Debi Olsen and I like to do things myself. Not because I don’t trust anyone else to do things (okay, that’s sometimes the reason), but because I love the exhilaration and satisfaction that comes from knowing that I actually did it myself!

My family has always said I was born stubborn, strong-willed, headstrong, pig-headed…. and so on. To prove their point, they love to tell the following story:

One bright sunny day, when I was very young, I went on a walk with my mom and grandma. As we came to a crosswalk, Grandma reached down and said, “Grab my hand so we can cross the street.” My reply was to grab my own hand with determination and exclaim, “No! Me do it meself!” and proceeded across the street holding my own hand.

Me do it meself pretty much sums up who I am today. I am still stubborn, strong-willed, headstrong, pig-headed…. and so on, except I prefer to use words like determined, strong-minded, independent, purposeful…! I love to prove that I can do anything I set my mind to. I am not usually one to take no for an answer, especially if I have my mind set on it. Where I have a will I always find a way. It may not always the prettiest way, and it’s sometimes not the smartest way, but I definitely find a way.

I also love to create. I create all kinds of things too; from building chicken houses and computers, to cooking, canning, making soap and spinning yarn; I just love to create. This blog was created as a way for me to share some of my creations as well as my adventures in doing things myself. This blog is not intended to be used as instruction for the exact way to do something. Instead, it should simply be used as an example of one way to go about it, and even sometimes ways to not go about it. The gratification you get from doing something yourself is immensely satisfying. I hope this blog will serve as a form of information, but mostly as an inspiration for you to try something new. To create something YOURSELF!

Thanks for stopping by!
